OFFICE OF EXRC
role | design intern
duration | jun 2024 - present (ongoing)

overview

I started working for the University of Illinois's Office of External Relations and Communications (EXRC) department during the summer before my senior year of college. EXRC helped me become a stronger and organized designer, especially because I got so much feedback from my supervisor. I was able to work on a variety of projects, such as digitizing the U of I System's Annual Report, and designing flyers for corporate events.

UIS Student Advocacy Coalition Materials

I was tasked to design a flyer and postcard for the University of Illinois Springfield's Student Advocacy Coalition. I had to incorporate both red and blue into the materials while also making it more modern.

planning

I researched political campaign buttons from between the 1930s to the 1980s, as well as political posters designed both for presidential runs and for broader social issues. I was particularly drawn to the Carter/Mondale button because I don't see presidential campaigns use green very often, if at all. I also was a big fan of the typeface that they used, so I ended up implementing something similar in the final product.
